In 2019 21-22 April are the days of Easter, this huge Christian holiday. There are numerous programs organized in the whole city at this time. One of the biggest events, held between the end of March and end of April is the Budapest Easter Fair. Vörösmarty Square is the home of this festival in the city center where you can purchase quality handicrafts (the same place where the famous Christmas Fair and Winter Festival takes place in December); get familiar with Hungarian Easter customs (sprinkling, egg painting), and try some famous Hungarian dishes, such as chimney cake (kürtöskalács), the Hungarian savory snack (lángos), Easter smoked ham and eggs, Easter sweet bread etc. You will not regret them. Furthermore, for families with children the Vajdahunyad Castle is recommended where the kids can visit the spectacular Giant Egg exhibition whereas the parents can take part in a cooking contest to receive the “Golden Lamb Award”.
