August 20th is the celebration of the foundation of our state and the feast of King Saint Stephen, which is one of the most significant events for us Hungarians throughout the year. During this celebration, the streets of Budapest are filled with life, as the diverse programs are well-known not only in Hungary but also worldwide. In the capital, there will be numerous exciting events that you can attend on this occasion. This year, from August 17th to 20th, a four-day series of events awaits visitors at various locations in Budapest! Visitors will be welcomed to experience the Grand Celebration of Saint Stephen’s Day such as Flag Hoisting, and the Pledge of allegiance ceremony, the Festive Mass and Holy Right Procession, an exciting air parade above the Danube, and many other activities! So let us give you a little teaser of the colorful activities in Budapest:

One of the most visited gastronomic events of the year, the “Hungarian Flavors Street,” (Magyar Ízek utcája) will be available, where besides the Hungarian Cake of the Year, the Saint Stephen’s Day bread will be presented. The Festival of Crafts will also be open to visitors in Buda Castle between the 18th and 20th.

At Kossuth Square, the Grand Celebration of Saint Stephen’s Day, Flag Hoisting, and the Pledge allegiance ceremony will await visitors. In the City Park, there will be plenty of programs to enjoy. We recommend the “Magic Park” (Varázsliget) program for children, where they can participate in various activities, a fairy tale exhibition, prince and princess workshops, a giant circus, and many surprises for the little ones.

For those looking to party, the free-to-attend “Tabán Retro Festival” will provide lively music and a fabulous retro party series from August 18th to 20th.

The Fashion & Design Festival, which is part of the Saint Stephen’s Day series of events for the third time, will welcome those interested in Hungarian fashion, jewelry, and design at a new location, the Millenáris Park.

On the Pest and Buda embankments, the Hungarian Defense Forces Air Parade will showcase special demonstrations of military aircraft, helicopters, and a selected team of paratroopers above the Danube. The Saint Stephen’s Basilica will host the Festive Mass and Holy Right Procession for those interested. The festive atmosphere will culminate in Europe’s largest fireworks display, which includes the beautiful fireworks show, spectacular light play, and building projections on the Parliament, Gellért Hill, and the National Gallery. All are welcome to celebrate the nation’s holiday.

To celebrate this event to the fullest, our company would like to offer a special program centered around the fireworks on the Danube. Our tour will take you around Budapest’s landmarks by boat, and then we will anchor at the perfect locations to view the fireworks! Instead of crowded streets, you can witness the crowning of August 20th while enjoying a delightful 4-course dinner with live piano performance onboard!
